For some, Mother's Day is a day to remember a mother that has passed. For others, it's a day of celebrating with family. But, for both, it's a day to celebrate women, our accomplishments and the love it takes to achieve them. My journey with breast cancer has brought me to realize how special it is to be a woman and the tremendous need we have to support each other. Pink-Link now has over 3,200 members across the country and internationally! For the past 3 years, Pink-Linkers have made over 1,000 connections! And last year, our website was visited by people from 109 countries. We just added the capability to search our survivor database based on age range: under 25, 26-40, 41-55 and over 55. We ARE making a difference in how women are getting the emotional support they need during a very trying time in their lives. I hope you're feeling well and empowered! The magazine is a nonprofit organization and it's mission is to empower and educate breast cancer survivors. They do this particularly well on their annual cruise with a variety of speakers and topics addressing various breast cancer issues. Pink-Link is proud to be a partner with the magazine in promoting the 2010 cruise in the Caribbean. The cruise departs Ft. Lauderdale on May 2, 2010 and returns on May 8th. When you book a cabin using the code "PinkLink", we will receive a $25 donation! So, besides having the time of your life, you are also donating to your favorite charity! Cruise Information | I recently connected with Gail Pekelis, owner of Women's Physical Therapy in Southern California. She is a Lymphedema specialist with 22 years of physical therapy experience. I asked her to write a series of articles addressing lymphedema and ways to control it. The following is the first in her series of articles. "In a three part series of short articles, the following information about lymphedema will be examined. This first article will define lymphedema, the risk factors and provide some helpful suggestions for self-education and care. Article II will discuss assessment and treatment options for lymphedema. Article III will discuss Axillary Web Syndrome and its presence with or without lymphedema. This condition may appear following axillary node dissection."
